It’s my little BIG brother’s 25th birthday—Right now, he’s on what I’m sure is a delightful bus ride to training camp. He’ll spend the next three days coaching the Franklin County Flyer football team. It’s Nick’s first year on this side of the field (as a coach) and I am SO proud of him! He’ll also be teaching health and physical education at the high school so he’ll get a chance to interact with his players on and off the field.
I spent last tonight scrapping a page and as I sifted through our many very cute childhood pictures, I was struck by the fact that he’s been my very best friend in the world for 25 years! From the day he came home from the hospital-I was so content to finally have a partner in life! We played outside ALOT growing up-in the pool on the farm, “Robin Hood” in the backyard, and bunt ball (a game we made up-patent pending
) in the front. I felt so much pride watching him play soccer, basketball, baseball, and football. I never had the “sideline syndrome” that some wheelers experience when their siblings are athletic because I was truly involved…For my first job, I took stats for Little League. Nick and I were both on the high school track team and making the most of all our abilities (physical and mental) is a value that we share. We spent the last summers I lived in Frankfort working together at the pool and the days were so much fun that I actually do remember stopping to think, “Cherish this because life won’t ever be this simple again!” Nick and I spent so much time together growing up not just because it was convenient or because we’re each other’s only siblings-he’s truly my best friend and I can’t picture my life without him. I’m truly blessed and I hope in that sweat-filled bus that’s winding down a Kentucky road right now-he knows how much he’s loved!
