I’m truly excited to try my hand at hosting the next blog carnival here at “If the World Had Wheels.” There’s always a little something special when I write a post for an upcoming disability blog event. Maybe it’s the increased readership, but I think it has more to the do with the sense of unity I feel with countless others. Sprinkled across the world, we’re all typing, voicing, drawing, and otherwise sharing our stories related to the same powerful topic. In a world where disability is an exciting topic, that would be the land o’ Kara, it can get a little lonely sometimes, but these blog-a-ganza’s are a much needed injection of solidarity. So after what feels like an acceptance speech with the commercial music getting louder in the background, on with the show! Here are all the details!
WHEN? Thursday, October 25 will be the official launch of the carnival. So the next edition will be posted that morning. I’ll accept submissions through 11:59EST late night Monday, October 22.
WHAT’S THE THEME? The official theme of the carnival will be “If…” I realize it’s a little umm…vague! But there’s reason behind my randomness. A few thoughts on the chosen theme:
- It’s the title of one of my favorite books- “If…(Questions for the Game of Life)” by Evelyn McFarlane and James Saywell. It always felt like a grown-up choose-your-own-adventure style of story to me and I love the way the questions are so thought- provoking. They go way beyond conversation starters and no matter how well I know someone, I’m always a little surprised by their answers if we get out my trusty copy.
- It sheds a little light on the meaning behind my own blog’s title because I’ve pondered how our community would change if we weren’t bonded by minority status, but by other aspects of our culture. What IF the majority of the world’s population viewed the world from your perspective?
- IF you’re wondering whether the post you have in mind “fits” this theme, the answer is YES! I’m more interested in quality posts from as many contributors as possible than an attempt for all of us to match.
HOW DO YOU SUBMIT SOMETHING? You have a few options:
1. If you have any questions with your submissions, you can e-mail me at karasheridan@bellsouth.net. Include the link to the post you have in mind and that way I can reply right away.
2. If you just want to send me your link OR have found another link on the web to a blog post that you think would be great for the carnival, submit the link HERE or click the submit button below.

Thanks! I think I signed up after Penny (the carnival moderator from over at the Disability Studies Temple U blog) posted a note that they were accepted volunteer hosts for the fall carnivals. They do it pretty far in advance. I’d drop her a note from her e-mail…..I think you go to that blog too but if not, it’s also available on the disability blog carnival home site.
