Thursday Thirteen

I thought I’d get back to blogging in my new digs by participating in a blog networking activity. The concept is simple and anyone can join-just blog about 13 of anything and post your link back here. It’s a great way to community with other bloggers, especially outside of your niche. Since I’ve been working on the design more than content, I thought I’d dedicate my first contribution to this event with 13 things I SHOULD have blog about in the last couple of weeks.

1. Canon love: My camera (A Powershot SD850IS) malfunctioned about two weeks ago. It kept reporting a lens error and would only take very blurry pictures if it worked at all. I mailed it into Canon with my warranty, hoped for the best, and to my surprise-they fixed it for FREE and mailed it back to me in only a few days.

2. Published in New Mobility: Check out my article on the advantages of community colleges. I had a blast interviewing the contributors and I’m happy with the piece. This month’s cover is to the right if you have a subscription or access to it. If not, you can read my article online here.

3. Full-time writer: In addition to working on my own huge projects, like my dissertation and clinical comprehensive exam documents, I’ve accepted a few other opportunities to write articles outside of the subject of disability. It’s been interesting to research sometimes totally random things and I’m doing well making my days productive.

4. Moving: We’re in full swing with our big move coming up at the end of November. We’re planning the logistics, making the most of our last few months in Miami, and looking forward to being back home with our friends and family. The dogs are going to enjoy the ability to play for more than 5 minutes without overheating, but they are going to miss the year round swimming opportunities out back.

5. Palin: I followed up to my Disaboom blog post on Biden with some thoughts on Palin. Check it out and leave me a comment. You no longer have to register to leave comments on Disaboom’s site.

6. Robby’s visit: Adam’s friend Robby enjoyed some time off from work with a visit to Miami. We weren’t able to take many pictures because the camera wasn’t working but we got a few shots when we went to Las Olas Beach.

7. IEP Season: My new parenting article is up over at Disaboom titled “The ABC’s of Individualized Education Programs”.

8. Paralympics to be broadcast on Universal Sports Channel! I’ll post the schedule here soon. If you’re willing to get up early, you can catch some swimming. Watch the Opening Ceremonies September 6 from 8-11am.

9. Cooking champ: I’ve cooked two major meals this week and right now I’m enjoying the smell of my first crock pot creation! Despite waking to me setting off the fire alarm at midnight (during the browning process), I think Adam will like it!

10. Blogroll additions: I’ve become a faithful reader of a few new blogs-Amy Derby’s Write from Home; Patricia Bauer’s Disability News; and Successful Blogging by Liz Stauss has also joined the growing list.

11. Pirate Bar: During Robby’s visit, we found this cute little pirate bar. My obsession with pirates got me pondering how we could somehow fit that in with the wedding…pink+pirates=? We’ll see! Here’s a picture of us in the pirate’s cove.

12. Wedding plans: I found and ORDERED THE dress. I love it and have another top secret plan for it. Because of a potential spy (pictured above), I can’t reveal any additional details!

13. Internship: In a year, I’ll be embarking on my final internship before I complete my Ph.D. program. I’ve blogged about the difficult and tedious application process. My friend and I are meeting weekly to focus our efforts, critique each other’s essays, and narrow down our choices.
