I’m enjoying one of those exhausted-but too happy to sleep-type of nights. I finalized my list of internship sites I’ll apply to during the wee hours of last night and compiled a spreadsheet to help me stay on top of everything. I woke up this morning oddly excited about my dissertation meeting…If anyone else is enthusiastic about the possibility of (more) writing, gathering data, and doing statistics, I’d really like to meet them! It turns out though, I had reason for my enthusiasm. By luck or good fortune, a professor that I admire joined my chair and me for our chat and he agreed to be the third and final member of my committee. Together, we outlined exactly what I need to do to defend my dissertation proposal before I move to the motherland. For the first time ever, it seems do-able and not in my idealistic/excessively hopeful usual style-but actually possible.
If that wasn’t enough goodness for one day, the stars aligned and I finally managed to pick up my wedding dress! Because it’s super top-secret, I can reveal NO details but I think it got even better than when I picked it out and ordered. The closet has been converted to the dress cave and no male or furred friends are allowed to enter. How we’ll manage this at 5:30am when Adam needs his uniform…we’ll see tomorrow morning!
After dress gathering, I dropped by campaign headquarters of B-to-the-rock and got my voting registration straightened out so I can vote in person here in Florida. Turns out I can vote early at a library right up the street so I’m on that. After a number of other boring errands (comforter washing, gas getting, etc.), I’ve been working on a freelance project most of the night. Looking forward to a full writing day tomorrow. I have several things to wrap up before my departure home on Thursday!
I’ll leave you with a few pictures of our weekend…
Obie capping in the sun.
Adam and I have begun simplifying for the move. We started with a major closet/drawer clean-out and came up with five huge trash bags full of clothes. I’ll be giving them to a friend who’s school is collecting for children in Haiti. As you can see (above) Bailey was exceptionally helpful in the process of helping me mourn the loss of these suits. This batch was definitely not donation-worthy. Most of these suits were “drag suits” (i.e. super old, ripped, torn, stretched-out suits you wear in layers while training to provide drag) back in the day so they are SO old now that some of them crackle when you touch them!

Happy fall!
