I’m starting another full week of freelance work and trying to gather letters of recommendation, transcripts, and essays for my internship applications. My last trip home to Kentucky before the big move was relaxing, but now I feel like I’m in overdrive to catch-up with the month of October. Since I posted here, I’ve blogged about my flights home with Bailey and my High School Reunion over at Disaboom. I also finished an article on the impact of the economic crisis on families of children with disabilities. Not a very positive topic, but an important story to be told! I’ll add the link here as soon as it’s published.
One of my favorite bloggers, Liz Strauss, is hosting a 25 word challenge that I completed this morning. The challenge is based on the idea that a great deal can be said in relatively few words. I enjoyed moving, revising, adding, subtracting, and jumbling my thoughts to come up with my take on the theme: Connections. I must have had water on the mind because I kept returning to the idea of drowning and the risk that connecting with others entails. It’s an important risk to consider and accept, but ignoring the perceived danger at times is leaving out part of the whole picture. My entry is illustrated below with a picture of Paralympic swimmer Rudy Garcia Tolson taking the dive!
Here’s the text: If you float on the surface of connections because you’re afraid of drowning, you’ll never experience the joy of underwater flight together. Dive deep-connect!
If you’d like to participate in the 25 word challenge, go here to check out the guidelines. Don’t have your own blog? Add your answers in the comment section and I’ll be happy to pass them along before the deadline (October 16).
Have a great week,
Kara

Kara, Amy tweeted the link and when Amy tweets I listen! This is beautiful and even more so with the connection to the paralympic swimmer. You are truly gifted.
